Preschool and daycare reimagined! Babies and toddlers experience the magic and wonder of an undersea paradise and the beauty of the local Louisiana landscape at Glad Tidings Church.
Highly coveted enrollment is attributed to Beverly Morgan, the passionate leader behind the Mother’s Day Out Program. Beverly’s unwavering desire to provide extraordinary care led her to seek out muralist Erica Nelson, after a flood devestated the building. Beverly allowed Erica to explore an all encompassing mural, which transformed the building into an oasis.
The wing is divided into two sections. Babies in the underwater area, and toddlers in the Louisiana landscape. Erica intentionally used local wildlife, nature, and landmarks, so that the children would connect with their surrounding. It worked!
The greatest victory was witnessing the artwork’s affect during child drop off. Rather than experiencing the stress and anxiety of leaving their parents, children wanted to come in. Children responded to the artwork in a hands on manner, which is ok! The material is laminated, and designed to be experienced. The walls are a combination of paint and laminated stickers. All of the artwork is hand done.
This package included custom designed coloring pages, to help the children connect even more with their surroundings.

Select artists painted AT&T boxes that were formerly used by gang members to communicate using graffiti. The art on the boxes deterred graffiti, and gang presence and violence decreased. The neighborhood left comments on a board, which are included.
“Dali Melting Pizza Box” Sponsored by Fresh Brothers Pizza.
“Bobby Box” Sponsored by friends + neighbors she invested her life into. The box depicts her life in New York, where she associated with the Apollo Theatre and singers like Ella Fitzgerald. Bobby moved to California and moved into the Franklin Ave neighborhood, purchasing homes, and investing in her community. Beloved by many, she changed the lives of all she knew. She never had children, but the man in the mural was her “son” in every other way. This was his tribute to her.

A recent client writes:
"Look what a difference 3 years of painting and a week of classes make in Maggie's painting. We were so blessed to have her for a week. Maggie worked really hard in her painting classes for 3 hours a day for 5 days. In the end, she has created a painting that I like to call Tiger Through the Black Hole. I am hoping that she is able to make prints and sell her art. We have some work to do to get that done, but she has the painting and the drawing of the Tiger. I hope you enjoy."

In the second photo, Erica worked with Maggie to created a digital image from her hand drawn tiger. Together, they created a Nelson Art Studio sticker.
A sample of work spanning 15+ years.
Influences include Dali, Warhol, and the surrealist and pop art movements. Erica explores a variety of subjects and styles. Her struggle to land on a singular theme, brought about her future in storytelling murals.
This collection of work is a journal of Erica’s experiences as she progressed as an artist, and into a muralist. Obscure, observant, reflective, messy, and bright, these paintings reflect a heart that never gave up on her dream.
